15-18 April 2020, online workshop.

The acute visibility of the #MeToo movement has spurred reflection about how we ‘do’ early modern plays in ways that are ethical and intersectional, while acknowledging them as culturally valuable texts. This workshop will explore the limits of current approaches and of what a scholar/practitioner can or should represent as well as models of successful praxis. We encourage work on dramatists beyond Shakespeare, and we particularly welcome participants identifying as LGBTQI, disabled, and BIPOC.

Workshop facilitated by Nora J. Williams and Erin Julian

11 April UPDATE:

Following the cancellation of SAA’s annual conference, we have moved our workshop to an online event hosted on this site’s Discussion page. The new online workshop will be held between 15-18 April 2020. The schedule for online discussion is as follows:

15 April @ Noon GMT: Comments are open to workshop participants only

17 April @ Noon GMT: Comments open to both workshop participants and auditors

18 April @ 5PM GMT: Workshop discussion closed.

All comments will be approved by workshop leaders or designated moderators before appearing on the site. Auditors wishing to gain access to the discussion boards should contact Nora or Erin for the discussion page password, which can also be used to gain access to workshop submissions. All approved auditors will be asked to agree to uphold the terms of our participant contract, including our forthcoming social media and sharing guidelines. We also request auditors follow our accessibility guidelines where they are able.
